What do you love to do? What are your interests and hobbies? What keeps you up late at night and gets you out of bed in the morning? If you are unsure or just need some direction, then you may love this exercise.
Take a big piece of paper and some colorful markers. Write your name in the middle and put a big circle around it. Next draw lines coming out of circle in all directions, at least 5 or 6. At the end of each line, write down some of the things you love or categories of things you love. For example, you may love nature, or creating art, or exercising.
Create a web by continuing to extend lines from each category you wrote down. Write words that relate to each of these subcategories. For example, if you wrote nature, then your extending words might include hiking, trees, plants, or garden. Each word will inspire other connecting words so continue to write until you can’t think of any other words.
This web will give you a clear picture of all the things you love and how those things connect to one another. I like to highlight the most important words so they stand out.
This exercise really helped me to understand how my interests could work together in creating the life I love. It revealed my passions and gave me a sense of direction. Try it and see what you discover!
