Organizing Tip #9: Daily Tasks

Life is busy! With our jobs, kids, home, fun, it can be hard to stay on top of it all. (Wasn’t there a song in the eighties about women doing it all??) Ugh! No one can do it all, nor should you try! But there are some things we can do to help us get more done each day.

One of those helpful tips is to create a list of your daily tasks and assign a regular time period for them. This has been one of the most efficient things I do for myself. For example, everyday I make my bed. (Yup it is true!) When I get out of bed, I make it right then. If I am changing the sheets that day, I change them right then. Two or three minutes and it is done. Other things, like check my email, are done a little later in the day. I also walk my dog, prepare my meals, go to the gym, meditate, etc. All these daily tasks have their own time slot.

Actually, by establishing these little routines, I am creating habits. Having these habits helps me be productive and move forward on my goals each day.

Now, if this stresses you, let me also say that within these habits, it is important to be flexible. I don’t make it to the gym everyday and sometimes my dog gets a game of fetch instead of a walk. But by having a time slot for each daily task, I tend to do more of them most of the time!
