    Spring Cleaning

Every Spring I like to declutter and deep clean my home. I actually get excited to do this because organizing is one of my favorite things to do! I am not sure how this obsession of mine began, but I do know that it happened sometime when I was young.

My mom was not a person who liked to clean. She did like to keep things though and there was always clutter piled up around the house. This gave me so much stress every single day.

I decided to follow in my dad’s footsteps instead. He had a place for each of his tools and all his stuff was neatly put away every night. I would sit on a stool near his workbench and watch him work. And then I watched him clean up. This time my dad and I spent together meant so much to me and it made an impact on my life.

I like to keep my home picked up and my things organized. I do not like to keep clutter around, so I regularly sort and get rid of whatever I am not using. I am not a minimalist, but I am my own version of something close to that.

How to spring clean? . . . one room at a time and one room a day or week.

Start with one room. I like to pick a simple area where there is not too much stuff. Pull everything out of the closets, drawers, or cabinets.

Try to eliminate 20% of what you had. If you come across anything that you haven’t used in the past year, consider getting rid of it, repurposing it, or giving it away. Keep only the things that you use often and that belong in that location. Remove everything else.

Time to clean! Put on a movie or music. Try to make the process as fun as possible. Clean from the top down. Begin by dusting the ceiling and walls. Move downward and dust pictures, windows, and clean curtains. Last, clean the baseboards.

Rearrange furniture and organize your things. This is a great time to try a new look in some of the rooms of your home. Even a small change might make a big impact. If your closet or cabinets aren’t as organized as you would like, find some ideas to make the most of your space.

Continue throughout your home. Keep working at cleaning and decluttering one room at a time. Before you know it, you will be done!

This is the perfect time to refresh your home. Stores, restaurants, and entertainment places are opening up. Life is getting back to some type of normal and the weather is warming up. Dedicate the next week or two to spring cleaning! You will be glad you did!
