How to Take Care of YOU

I was a homemaker for more that thirty years. I put my family first, trying to be the perfect wife, mother, and caregiver. I cleaned the house, did laundry, made meal plans, ran errands, drove kids around and more. I was so caught up in taking care of others that I forgot what it meant to take care of myself.

If someone would have asked me, "Do you take care of yourself?" I would have answered with a resounding "yes, of course!" But truly, I wasn't making time for me and that left me feeling a little resentful of the people I loved so much.

Self-care is as important to you as brushing your teeth. It often gets overlooked because our lives are so busy that we forget to just take some time to rejuvenate and relax.

There are three areas to consider - physical, emotional, and mental. Each of these areas will suffer if we are not taking care of ourselves. When you are feeling stressed, sad, or unmotivated, think about when was the last time you did something for you.

I love lists (as you probably already know) and making a list for self-care might be helpful. Keep it on your bathroom mirror as a reminder to think about YOU.

My list includes: take a bath, go for a walk, get a coffee, read a book, take a nap, bake a dessert, watch a movie, and so on. Everyone's list will be different because what relaxes me might stress you completely!

So create your own "go-to" reminder and the next time you are feeling worn out, provide a little T-L-C for yourself!
