Fall is my favorite season! I love the changing trees, the warm colors, and all the fantastic treats only available now like a Pumpkin Spice Latte! Each year at this time, I start craving all my traditional fall treats and visiting apple orchards and pumpkin patches.
Traditions, or the customary things we do and hand down to our families, are the reason we look forward to certain times of year and holidays. We look forward to a costume party at Halloween and turkey at Thanksgiving.
I have one tradition that I share with my daughter, we decorate a gingerbread house each year in December. Some years, we have gotten very elaborate and others we sort of slap it together, but because it is a tradition, we make sure we carve out the time to share the experience together.
If I had known how special sharing this one tradition with her would be, I would have created traditions around every day events and every holiday.
I think traditions make people look forward to doing things together while celebrating whatever the occasion may be.
If your kids are young, I encourage you to build in some traditions to every holiday. My kids are grown, but I have resolved to still try and build more traditions for myself and my family. Hopefully, it isn’t too late and they will want to do this with me!
I would love to hear all about your favorite traditions. Please post in the comments below!
